The Islamic Will – An Important Obligation
One of the most neglected commands of AllahSWT is the command that: ‘we must have our Last Will documented.’
It is prescribed for you, when death approaches any of you, if he leaves wealth, that he makes a bequest to parents and next of kin, according to reasonable manners and generous (Al-Maaruf). (This is) a duty upon Al-Muttaqoon (the pious). [Surah Al-Baqarah 2:180]
RasulAllahSAW has emphasized that it be done without any delay.
“It is not right for any Muslim person who has anything to bequeath that he passes even two nights without having his will written.” [Agreed]
“Anyone who executed a will, was on the Right path, followed the Sunnah, and was righteous, witnessing to the Truth; and he died in such a condition – he is forgiven (by AllahSWT).”[Ibn Majah]
